Brian Doss, Ph.D.

Dr. Doss is an Associate Professor of Psychology. He received his Ph.D. from UCLA, completed his internship at the Medical University of South Carolina and the Ralph H. Johnson Veteran Administration Hospital, and was an Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University for 5 years before starting at the University of Miami in 2009. Dr. Doss has received multiple grants from the National Institutes of Health and the Administration for Children and Families. He teaches undergraduate and graduate classes on couple therapy and romantic relationships. His research is focused on ways to increase the reach of couple interventions, including online interventions ( and a self-help book titled Reconcilable Differences. Dr. Doss’ research has been cited on The Today Show, CNN, MSNBC, the New York Times, the Miami Herald, and elsewhere.

Graduate Students

McKenzie K. Roddy, M.S. is completing her clinical internship at Baylor College of Medicine in the Behavioral Medicine and Geropsychology Track for the 2019-2020 calendar year as the final requirement for her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Miami. She received her B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and M.S. in Psychology from the University of Miami. McKenzie's research interests include dyadic telehealth interventions and the interplay between relationship and individual functioning. Her dissertation focuses on individual mental and physical health outcomes as well as moderators and mechanisms of effects from the OurRelationship program. McKenzie has served as the lead coach supervisor and trainer for the last 2 years and previously worked as a coach for nearly 4 years.

Karen Rothman, M.S. is a 4th year Doctoral Candidate for the 2019-2020 calendar year in the Adult Clinical Psychology division of the University of Miami’s Department of Psychology. Karen received her B.A. in Psychology from Skidmore College in 2014, and her M.S. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Miami in 2018. Before arriving in Miami, she worked as a research coordinator at NYU Langone Medical Center for two years. Her research interests include romantic relationship functioning in underserved populations, the development and dissemination of couple therapy interventions, and the impacts of traumatic and environmental stress on romantic dyads, with a particular focus on sexual trauma. Karen has worked as a relationship coach with the OurRelationship program for nearly 3 years and has served as a coach co-supervisor for the past year. She currently serves as the lead coach supervisor and trainer.

Gabe Hatch, B.S. is a 2nd year graduate student for the 2019-2020 academic year in the Adult Clinical Psychology division of the University of Miami. Gabe received his B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Statistics from Brigham Young University in 2018. Gabe’s research interests include the dissemination and implementation of low-cost and light-touch interventions for couples and investigating the minimum effective dose for relationship interventions. Additionally, Gabe has broad interests in human sexuality including the measurement of pornography consumption, investigating the motivations and etiology of pornography consumption, and sex outcomes for relationship interventions. Gabe also explores varying methods for reporting data analyses including Bayesian estimation, variable selection, and machine learning. Gabe has worked as a relationship coach with the OurRelationship program for the past year.

Communications Coordinator

Elias Lopez, B.A. received his Bachelor’s degree in International Business from Florida International University in 2010. Early in his career, he developed an interest in e-commerce, and subsequently in business development. Elias does digital marketing, which has been his main focus for the past few years. He specializes in search engine marketing and optimization, social media campaigns, keyword research, planning, data analysis and reports for optimization. Currently, he is in charge of digital marketing for the OurRelationship program where he helps to find participants who could benefit from the program. Prior to his current position, he has worked at a digital marketing agency where he handled several accounts, and he has also worked as a member of a marketing team for a startup company.
